Fall 2024 Educational Tips Blog
EDUCATIONAL NEWSLETTER FALL 2024
Welcome to school year 2024-25! It has begun! As we start this first semester, I have a few reminders and updates for you all.
First, House Bill 24-1216 on juvenile education did pass, you can find information on this bill here D:\dist\text\1216_enr.txt (colorado.gov). It will take effect in 2025. Generation Schools Network in collaboration with CDE worked to pass this bill and will work towards implementation. You can find information on Generation Schools Network here – www.generationschools.org . I can share more about this bill with your teams if you would like. Feel free to reach out!
Secondly, I am officially a contract consultant for OCR! Both GAL’s and CFY’s can request my services to support any educational planning and professional consulting for youth involved with DHS. If you are on a team and the youth has a GAL, simply speak with the GAL and ask if I can be added as a consultant. I am available to provide resources, guidance on working with special education, understanding the IEP, educational stability, new school enrollments, education law, disciplinary matters, and much more. Please note this is case consulting with professionals, not direct service as with other contract providers.
I can also assist with college consulting to help students organize their applications, understand the process, and work on admission essays. Colleges are now accepting admissions for Fall 2025 and this is exactly the time when students submit applications to college in planning for next year.
A quick reminder that we do have enrollments more readily available now until October count with Tuesday, October 1, 2024, being the official count day at schools. Some of our charters, online, and hybrid programs close enrollment for the year after October count. For example, GOAL Academy, the hybrid program with whom I most often work closes enrollment on 9/29/24 this year. Typically they will do a lottery in December with a varying number of seats available. Other online programs close for the rest of the school year. Astravo and some K12 online programs seem to have rolling admissions. In addition, many alternative schools develop wait lists so make sure to get your student on that waitlist if applying for 2nd Quarter.
As a follow-up to my last newsletter on early childhood education – here is the link giving you the ability to sign up for their newsletter if you are interested. Home | Colorado Department of Early Childhood . I signed up months ago and it's full of great information in both English and Spanish.
